The upgraded successor to the P-36, the P-40 was also in operation at Pearl Harbor. 2nd Lt George Welsh and 2nd Lt Ken Taylor (47th Pursuit Sw, Wheeler Field), together shot down as many as 4 aircrafts over Pearl. All told 19 USAF pilots got airborne during or immediately after the attack, and claimed 10 kills
